Marian Shardow attended Achimota School in Ghana, which is renowned for training leaders. She then studied Hotel & Catering Management at Westminster College, Vincent Square, London, reputedly, "the best Hotel school in the world"!
Since then, Marian has worked in residential management and social care. She has also worked as a Technical Instructor, in training people with mental health problems and learning disabilities, in catering management, and in a variety of other areas. She enjoys Christian fellowship, swimming, the theatre, music and cooking, and considers that the purpose of her life is "to be useful and make a difference".
Her book, “A Taste of Hospitality” (published by Trafford Publishing) was launched in the year 2003 by the Ghana High Commissioner in Kensington Town Hall. Her second book, “A Taste with a Difference”, was published in 2019.
These books introduce the flavours of Ghana to the rest of the world, and reflect on a culture of giving and generosity as being as nourishing to the soul as it is to the body. “Hospitality is a blossoming of love in our homes where love is tended the year through,” says Marian.
“The welcome, the friendship shared, the drinks offered (even if it is a mere glass of cold water) and the meals cooked, however simple, are ways of expressing love to those who come in.”
